Million Dollar Listing

While I just started watching Million Dollar Listing regularly I found it particularly illustrative of 3ishness and 3s. Now, while I don't think that all the characters in the show are 3s. The real estate industry, and more succinctly, the million dollar real estate industry seems to exemplify 3ishness at it's best.

I'm particularly struck by the social 3w4 exemplar we get with Chad Rogers:

He is clearly an intelligent guy, and constantly has his eye on the prize, which for him is most often cutting the perfect deal. Chad inadvertently gave a big clue about his personality in the November 2nd episode as he was reflecting on his relationship with his girlfriend where he said;  "she get's me...my career defines me." He is unabashadley married to his career and his reputation is paramount to his business. While this is often true of the real estate industry in general, I believe 3s tend to really excel in real estate because image management, salesmanship and cultivating the right clientele are all aspects of 3 that seem to support a career in real estate. Chad is always perfectly coiffed every episode and seems to have a significant amount of strategy at work in how he deals with his clients and peers. I can always see the gears turning on how to best go about attacking the next deal or client and attention is paid to every part of his life that anyone could see and scrutinize. Of course there is a Hawthorne effect with the presence of the cameras, but something tells me Chad has always been Chad cameras are not. Social 3 is often concerned with prestige and having the right pedigree and knowing the right people, driving the right car, and living at the right address.

So all in all I think Chad is a great exemplar of the social 3w4 (supported by a strong self preservation subtype focus). There is a preoccupation with a good social image, great at moving between groups and talking to people of varied backgrounds, a need to hold center stage tempered by a smooth professionalism. A trendsetter with a very metropolitan style (supported by his 4 wing) and incredibly status conscious. There's a vacant, almost robotic feel to Madison that indicates to me that he might identify with the machine imagery sometimes 3s like to use. It also indicates to me a fair amount of entrenchment in his type.

Josh Flag appears to also be a 3w4, possibly self preservation. Josh seems to represent a more understated expression of the 3 style. He is certainly professional, polished, and well rehearsed but tends to have a bit more of a less flamboyant style (shiny black Porsche notwithstanding). Here again I see the refinement of the 3w4 heavily supported by a desire to excel professionally. Josh will go to any lengths to seal a deal as was evidenced in episode 4: "Jumping through Hoops for a Signature". His willingness to do whatever it takes to get the deal is another great personification of 3ishness at work. Personally I feel like Josh seems to have more of a grasp on reality and be a bit more psychologically grounded but that could be the groundedness of the self pres subtype at work. I do think money is his bottom line, but he tends to posses a bit more tactfullnes than Chad.

The jury is still out for me and Madison.

He doesn't seem like a 3 but could be a 7 or a 1. I'm thinking 1w9 or possibly 7w6 would be more fitting of him. He seems to have a sort of ease about him that the other two lack and doesn't seem as focused on the image oriented aspects of his career. Even the picture above that appeared on the bravo website seems to have a bit more ease. He has that rakish look about him that you sometimes get with the 7; that sort of sly, trickster feeling. He seems to resonate a bit more internally. His sexual permisiveness; calling himself "pansexual" I've seen with 7s and the more new age sexual 1s. Then again he is very driven and professionally oriented so it's a tough call. I may weigh on on him at a later date when I get a better read.

Josh vs. Chad

Final Weigh In:

Chad: 3w4 so/sp 3-7-1 tritype
Josh: 3w4 sp/so 3-5-1 tritype
Madison: 7 or 1 (I'll get back to you)
